  1. All parent/carers should be aware that a child's place at our pre-school, is secured by weekly fees, which are payable even if a child is ill or absent.
  2. Fees can be paid on Monday or Friday mornings between 9.30-9.45 or Monday at 12.30pm.
  3. If fees are not paid promptly, you should be aware that you will receive a reminder and possible suspension.
  4. If after 10 consecutive days, we have not been contacted regarding your child's absence, your child's place can not be guaranteed. Any future places will be at the discretion of the pre-school.
  5. Regular attendance is needed to ensure that your child's learning is achieved in all areas.
  6. Punctuality is of great importance as late arrivals and early collections can cause distractions to the session.
  7. A change of clothing should be left on your child's peg, in case of accidents.
  8. All parent/carers are asked to provide fruit on a daily or weekly basis.
  9. Please do not allow your child to bring in valuable items, as we are unable to accept any responsibility for loss or damage.
  10. All parent/carers are required to participate in the parent/carer rota system, at least twice a term.

Selecting Play Equipment and Toys

The toys and equipment in Norwood Pre-school provide opportunities for children, with adult help, to develop new skills and concepts in the course of their play and exploration. The equipment we provide:

  • is appropriate for the ages and stages of the children
  • offers challenges to developing physical, social, personal and intellectual skills
  • features positive images of people, both male and female, from a range of ethnic and cultural groups, with and without disabilities
  • includes a range of raw materials which can be used in a variety of ways and encourages an open-minded approach to creativity and problem solving
  • will enable children, with adult support, to develop individual potential and move towards required learning goals
  • conforms to all relevant safety regulations and is sound and well-made

Staffing and Employment

A high adult: child ratio is essential in providing good quality pre-school care.At Norwood Pre-school:
  • We have at least one member of staff to each group of eight children aged 3-5 years and at least one member of staff to each group of 2½-3 years.
  • Our key worker system ensures each child has one particular staff member who takes a special interest in them
  • Regular staff meetings provide opportunities for staff to undertake curriculum planning and to discuss the children's progress and any difficulties.
  • We work towards an equal opportunities employment policy, seeking to offer job opportunities equally to both women and men, with and without disabilities, from all religious, social, ethnic and cultural groups.
  • Staff training meets all regulatory requirements. In addition we aim to ensure that at least half our staff hold the Diploma in Pre-school Practice or equivalent qualifications, and all staff hold or are working towards qualifications appropriate for their position in the group.
  • We support the work of our staff and identify their ongoing training and development needs by means of regular monitoring/appraisals.
  • We are committed to recruiting. appointing and employing staff in accordance with all relevant legislation.

Diet - Policy and Practice

The sharing of refreshments can play an important part in the social life of Norwood Pre-school as well as reinforcing children's understanding of the importance of healthy eating. Norwood Pre-school will ensure that it fulfils all the requirements of the registering authority and that:
  • All meals and snacks provided are nutritious, avoiding large quantities of fat, sugar, salt, additives, preservatives and colourings
  • Before a child starts to attend the group, the Pre-school Leader will discuss with the parents the child's dietary needs, including any allergies, and make appropriate arrangements to meet them
  • A diet encompassing food from a range of cultures ensures that children from all backgrounds encounter familiar tastes and that all children have the opportunity also to try unfamiliar foods
  • Milk provided for children is whole and pasteurised
  • The dietary rules of religious groups and also of vegetarians/vegans are known and met in appropriate ways
